"A child's fear should never be the determining factor when a dental procedure needs to be performed. Sedation is a safe effective method of allowing every child to have any type of necessary procedure performed, safely, effectively, and without traumatizing the child."
Appropriate sedation allows us to provide over 1,000 safe treatment visits per year! |
Dr. Christopher Luccy is Westmoreland County's only board certified pediatric dentist. As a member of the teaching faculty at the University of Pittsburgh and at Children's Hospital at Pittsburgh, he helps to train graduate students and hospital pediatric dental residents. He has represented pediatric dentistry on both the state and national level for over 20 years. He currently serves the Pennsylvania Dental Association in a variety of programs related to children's dental health, and is chairman of the Ad Hoc Committee for the Pennsylvania Dental Association that deals with problems involving patients covered by CHIP and Medicaid. Dr. Luccy currently also serves on the Clinical Affairs Committee for the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. This committee develops policies and guidelines to establish the most appropriate dental treatment for children.
As a nationally recognized expert in facial growth and development, Dr. Luccy teaches two ADA certified continuing education courses on the subject. For the last 15 years, he has lectured extensively throughout the United States and this expertise is used to maximize every child's potential for ideal facial growth and development (that beautiful smile).
Dr. Luccy is also recognized nationally for his expertise in conscious sedation. He has published articles and served on national committees on how to best help children too young or afraid to accept dental care without special help. Dr. Luccy works weekly with Dr. Richard Bennett, our staff anesthesiologist. For the past 30 years, Dr. Bennett has served as professor and chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology at the Pitt Dental School. He comes to Dr. Luccy's office to provide IV sedation for children in need. Dr. Luccy and Dr. Bennett work together exclusively in Westmoreland County because they have the utmost confidence in the abilities of each other. We know of no safer way to treat fearful children than by using the sedation techniques which have proven completely successful over the last 20 years.
